    Hi Todd-

I'm an atheist, and I just wanted to thank you for posting this. I think the idea of versing is very clever, and it says a great deal about your character that you chose to protest in such a peaceful and nondestructive way.

We obviously differ in our beliefs, but I think we both share the value for our right to speak out, and through your actions it seems we both value doing saw in a way that follows the law… and human decency.

I think versing will be good for both Christians and atheists. Both groups will have the opportunity to come together with people who share their views. Christians through the versing website, and atheists, through the added publicity versing will bring. I think the most important thing here is that people find the place they need to be.

    Sincere thanks and good luck-
    Annie

  • Annie,

Thanks for the comment and welcome to the blog.

  • Here is something agnostics can do in response to what Christians can do in response to the new atheist ad campaign in California.

When you see a picture of a Christian who has seen an ad like this and printed off a verse from the Bible and taken a picture by the ad, print off a helpful critique of their photo and take a picture of their picture. I just have, with my Iphone. You can't see it, but the print off of the helpful critique reads:

"Todd; In an effort to get yourself and your cool sunglasses into the frame, you have the camera too far back for your viewing public to read the verse. What's the point? If you want to convince us agnostics not to be atheists, go back to all those atheist signs you have versed at and retake the photo in a way that we can read your verse. I call it reversing. help it catch on."

  • Dave,

I'll meet you half way to help the biblically challenged agnostics out there. I've put a helpful hint above the photo, just click on it to make it more readable. If that doesn't help the agnostics enough, then I've quoted the verse instead of just referencing it.

  • Dave-

I clicked on the picture above to enlarge it, and I could read the verse. A cloudy day may have produced a better view of the bible and rosary beads in the ad, though.

Here's another subcategory that you might consider adding Todd: How about "traversing"? That could be for people who come from out of state for the sole purpose of versing.

  • Annie, what about universing, where a person verses while standing on one leg?

Thanks, Todd. I am clearly technologically challenged as well as biblically challenged. I don't know what to do first, read my I Mac manual or re-enrol in Sunday School.

  • That's awesome! I was trying to think of something for universing… and I came up with versing, but only when using Genesis 1:1, or Matthew 1:1, but Matthew 1:1 is pretty lame. But the one leg idea is more practical (and more fun).

And to borrow from the French, you could also include bouleversing, which would be versing, but holding the bible verse upside down… or perhaps the verser could be standing on their head?

I really want this idea to take hold, as I think it would be fun to write a field guide to versing!

  • Right. No reason for us to be versus versing. Or vice versa.

  • Christianity is based on faith, and faith cannot be proven by facts. You either believe or you don't, and your belief system is one of the most powerful characteristics you can poses as a human being. If you leave your belief system empty or you fill it up with negativism, your in for a long/painful run.
