He seems like he turned out alright to me. I've seen much worse products come out of heterogeneous homes than this guy. And that whole slippery slope argument is so tired and played out. I would really like someone to tell me exactly how gay marriage is personally harmful to them. You don't have to like it, but if they aren't doing anything tangible to you then leave it alone. Even psychologists have proven that there is no difference being raised by two parents of the same or opposite sex. It has to do with the actual parenting practices.

  • Yes, dysfunction is found in normal heterosexual families. That failure does not justify having kids raised by parents in homosexual relationships. Gay marriage is harmful because it is part of a larger political agenda to normalize homosexuality and harass anyone who opposes it.

  • Here’s our interview with Zach about how his life has changed after this speech thrust him into the public eye, what it was like growing up with two mothers, what led him to decide to go and speak before the House of Representatives, and what other young people can do to fight for equality and speak out against intolerance.

  • That makes no sense and you know it. The vast majority of the LGBT community just wants to have the same rights you and I have and nothing more. Rights that neither of us did anything to deserve except be born the way we are. After that, they just want to be able to have families, raise kids and enjoy life. If there is something harmful in that then there is something wrong with humanity. Let the politicians play their games and twist situations to feed their own agendas. Just leave people who want nothing but to live a happy out of it.

Wahls is getting a lot of “adoring attention” because he typifies the Aryan straight male stereotype so worshiped amongst the right-wing, and yet he completely gives lie to the notion that gay parents can’t raise well-adjusted children.

I feel sorry for the forces of hate out there… your only comeback to this guy’s compelling testimony is that he didn’t turn out right because he accepts homosexuality as normal. That’s a weak, subjective argument, and I would counter by saying that Wahl’s acceptance of his parents’ homosexuality (and his fearless advocacy for the rights of gay people) is only more proof that he IS a well-adjusted, compassionate and courageous citizen.

  • I'm rejecting the sort of utilitarian argument that justifies this, that the end result is all that matters.

  • Parents are either good ones or bad ones. Beyond that, they all come in different colors, shapes, sizes, demoninations, faiths and other assortments.
