It's an issue that spans that nation so it's a national issue. Having each state decide would just cause more harm than good. What do you expect? All LGBTQ people to segregate themselves into progressive states that accept them? I'm pretty sure we already went through this segregation thing once.

  • Using that logic, what issues should remain up to the states?

  • oops I ment to hit reply, the question was for you

  • There is a great divide on this. Human sexuality is a choice. Being gay is not the same as my wife being Asian American or my kids. That is a repulsive comparison. There is no free will under that view. That means all sexual activity is not free and you really don't want to go there do you?

  • Even on abortion it seems to be going to a state's rights issue on some restrictions. I think states should decide both, but I doubt that is what will be the end result.

  • I'm with Todd on this one. Leave it to the states.

  • Being gay is EXACTLY the same thing because it isn't a choice. And I will go there on your "free will" statement because you are suggesting that there is some kind of "universal ultimatum". The world isn't completely black and white. LIFE isn't completely black and white. There are somethings that we as human beings can control and there are others we cannot. That is why we do research and study the human condition. To figure out exactly what makes us who we are and why.

  • No state should have the right to tell two people who they can/can't spend the rest of their lives with. States should be able to control governmental issues. Issues that involve the protection of their citizens. When you start reaching into the personal lives of the people is where I have an issue.

  • Actually, the states, not the federal government, can and do tell us who we can and can't spend the rest of our lives with. There's this tiny thing call a marriage license that you need to have before you get married and it's issued by the state. Marriage is a state issue. Period.

  • Actually, Craig, you have most of that right. What the state/federal government SHOULDN'T have a right to do is tell you who's name goes on that license next to yours. Nor do that have the right to tell you what sex that person should be. That's the issue and it's a national one. Period.
